Community News and Events:

  • Lytchett Minster and Upton Beacon Association (LUBCA) LUBCA aims to provide facilities for recreation and leisure. The AGM for LUBCA charity is April 3rd at 7pm in the church lounge.
  • Upton and Lytchett U3A The group has spaces in the Coffee and Cake Group, which meets every Thursday morning at a local cafe, and the Chess group, which meets at a local pub on a Thursday afternoon once a month.
  • Lytchett Minster School The headmaster discusses the challenges of providing for students with special educational needs in mainstream schools due to funding issues and the need for more places in special schools.
  • The Community Centre's defibrillator machine The Clarion offered money to buy a new battery.
  • The Quayside Choir The choir meets at Broadstone United Reformed Church on Tuesday evenings and welcomes new singers.
  • Upton Methodist Church There is a Big Bug & Bee Club meeting on March 23rd. A coffee and cake morning in aid of Lewis Manning Hospice Care is on March 8th.
  • Lytchett Minster & Upton Allotment Association The association held its AGM and gave out seed potatoes. Plots are available starting from £35 a year.
  • Lytchett Minster Floral Club The club had a demonstration on February 5th and the next demonstration is March 5th. The venue is Lytchett Matravers Village Hall.
  • Lytchett Minster Parish Church The church has regular Sunday services and a KIDS CHURCH. There is also a drop-in group for parents and carers with children aged 0 up, called First Steps.
  • Upton in Bloom Upton in Bloom installed a railway heritage information board adjacent to the old line, The Castleman Corkscrew.
  • Lytchett Minster and Upton Community Art Strand The Art Strand is generating ideas for the coming year to support Upton in Bloom, make the scarecrow festival bigger, support the Town Council with their VE day celebrations and produce an email newsletter.
  • Upton Wives Mike Randall will be the speaker at the next meeting with a talk on smuggling. This will take place on Monday 10th March at 2.00 pm in St Dunstans Church Lounge.
  • Keep Upton Tidy The group had a winter litter pick in Upton on February 9th and collected 20 bags of litter.
  • FRIENDS 4 UPTON LIBRARY (F4UL) Events for March include coffee morning and book sale +Jigsaw Swap, and a presentation by Shaun Robson.
  • News from Westminster Vikki Slade MP discussed her work in Parliament and Dorset, including the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, visiting Upton Juniors, working on flooding in Lytchett Minster and improving bus services.
  • Lytchett United Branch of the Royal British Legion The Legion is planning commemorations for the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day.
  • Upton Wildlife There are several free events.
