Scam Warning From Dorset Police

Dorset Police have been getting lots of reports lately about bad guys pretending to be from your bank or the police. These crooks will try to scare you by saying your bank account is in trouble and they need you to move your money right away to a "safe account."

Here's the important part: Real banks and police officers will NEVER ask you to give them your bank details or move your money over the phone.

These scammers try to rush you and make you feel scared so you won't think clearly. But remember, take a deep breath and follow these steps to stay safe:

Hang up the phone right away. Don't even talk to them.

Wait at least a whole minute before you do anything else. This gives the scammer time to hang up their end too.

Call your bank yourself. Don't use the number the scammer gave you. Look up the real number on your bank statement or website.

Tell the bank about the call. They can help you check if your account is safe.

Report the scam to Action Fraud. You can do this online at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ or by calling 0300 123 2040.

By following these steps, you can protect yourself from these awful scams. Don't let them scare you! Just hang up, wait a minute, and call your bank the safe way.
